Floyd Langdon Collins, age 93, of White Hall, died Monday, Aug. 8, 2005 at Reisch Memorial Nursing Home in Carrollton. He was born Aug. 31, 1911 in Manchester, the son of Frederick Newton and Clara Langdon Collins. He married Nelle Elizabeth Muldrow on Jan. 17, 1942 in Union, Missouri and she preceded him in death on Oct. 26, 1988. He is survived by one son, Ronald Neal (wife, Sheila) Collins of White Hall; one daughter, Nancy Elizabeth (husband, Hans) Draayer of Kalamazoo, Michigan; six grandchildren, Sean Smith of Richmond, VA; Dawn (husband, Seth) James of Neoga; Samuel Langdon Collins and Andrea Husted Collins, both of White Hall; Adam Collins Draayer and Kristen Elizabeth Draayer, both of Kalamazoo, Michigan. Mr. Collins graduated from White Hall High School in 1930. He was a house painter until he was drafted into the Army in 1941. He served in the Pacific theater during World War II, where he was awarded three bronze stars. He retired after 45 years of farming the Langdon family farms in Scott and Greene counties. He was a member of the White Hall Presbyterian Church, serving as a deacon in earlier years. He was a member of the Greene County Farm Bureau, the White Hall Elevator Board and the White Hall Hospital Board. He enjoyed building and restoring furniture, bowling, chess and playing cards. He was an avid bridge player at the Sherwood Eddy YMCA achieving the status of life master. He was also a member of the White Hall American Legion Post 70, the White Hall VFW Post 7684 and a member of the White Hall Masonic Lodge #80 for 72 years, where he served as Past Master. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, 2005 at the Manchester Cemetery in Manchester. The family will meet friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall. Memorials are suggested to the Manchester Cemetery.
