Dear Paulette and Chuck's family, I am so very sorry. I always think of Chuck as my mentor since he was the first attorney I worked with at Gulf and he hired me at Enron. I always think of being on a SW Airlines Plane going to Midland with the doors closing thinking he's not here, what do I do, where do I go when I get there on my second week at Gulf when I hear, "Don't Close that Door" and know it's Chuck running down the walkway to the plane. He was a fabulous guy to work for, and I appreciated him every day he was my boss. I am very sorry. He will be missed.

We were shocked and saddened to hear of Chuck's passing. It doesn't seem that long ago that I would see Chuck, resplendent in suspenders, at The Coffee Bar or in the Tunnel on one of his long-striding marathon rambles away from the office. Shawna fondly recalls their horseback riding adventures at an Enron Legal Seminar. Chuck was the consummate gentleman and will truly be missed. Our condolences to family and friends.
-sent by Shawna Flynn & Andrew A. Crispin

I worked with Chuck at Enron for several years in the legal department after Enron declared bankruptcy and always enjoyed our converations about raising and showing horses and swapping stories on living in Tennessee and Kentucky. I admired Chuck in that he was always a true gentlemen in the practice of law and the way he treated people. My prayers go out to his family and friends.
-sent by Scott Dieball

Chuck was a good friend, colleague and my mentor. He always carried himself with dignity and treated others with respect, no matter what status they may have had, which I found inspiring and made me proud to be a part of his organization. He devoted himself to his clients and always served their best interests. In that way he was a "lawyer's lawyer". I very much appreciated my years working side by side with Chuck, through good times and trying times. Though thick and thin, he always kept his composure and presented the utmost in positive attitude. I am thankful too for the ways that Chuck advanced my career. He cared a great deal about the lawyers and staff in his Litigation Unit and that made a real difference in our lives. It is difficult losing such a friend and my thoughts and prayers go out to Paulette and the rest of Chuck's family during these trying times. Bob and Lisa Vote

Paulette, Becca and I were shocked and saddened to receive Danny Breen's e-mail yesterday telling me that Chuck had passed away. Danny and Chuck were two of the first people I met when we started law school in Knoxville in 1972, and because we were alphabetically linked (B, C, and D) we pretty much stayed together al the way through. My now-wife Becca (then Helton) was there too, but like you and Chuck we didn't marry until after law school. Chuck and I only talked infrequently since then, and only managed to get together a couple of times while I had litigation going in Houston circa 99-01. That said he was obviously bright in law school, so I wasn't shocked to learn that he held a reputation as being very capable among the lawyers I dealt with in Houston. He was certainly enthusiastic on just about every topic of conversation that arose, and was a delight to be around. The world will be a little duller without him. Please accept our sincere condolences and best wishes for the journey ahead.

I was so glad I got to visit with Chuck a few weeks ago. He told me he had a wonderfull life and that he was very lucky to have Paullette as his wife. Chuck was my first "roommate" and we were good friends from the start. He was a great leader in our fraternity. I had looked forward to reconnecting more in the future. He was a great brother and friend.

He was always kind, thoughtful, considerate and upbeat and always had a smile on his face no matter how bad things were. I am deeply saddened by his passing and I will keep all of you in my prayers.

I worked with Chuck for many years at Enron, and he was also a good personal friend. He was a fine and honorable attorney, but more importantly he was most certainly a true gentleman. One thing that I will always remember about Chuck is that he was always dressed stylishly and immaculately, from his coifed hair, to his starched shirts, to his crisp ties, to his tailored suits, to his highly shined designer shoes. I never saw Chuck in his riding attire, but I am sure that he was the epitome of stlye and grace astride his Tennessee Walkers. He will be sorely missed. Paulette, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Paulette and Family, Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. The untimely death of Chuck is shocking. Heart attacks spare no one and can rip your life apart in seconds. God had a plan for him and needed him quickly, leaving many things unsaid. Even though Chuck is no longer present on this earth, you can always cherish the time spent with him and the memories...no one can take that away. If we can do anything to help comfort you and your family, please do not hesitate to call. Lifting you up in prayer, Walking Horse Trainers Assoc. & Marcia Allison

Dear Paulette- I had the opportunity to work with Chuck when I worked in public relations at Enron. To Mrs. Cheek and Chuck's Family: I was muched saddened to learn of Chuck's passing. I was a colleague of Chuck's for many years. My company was once part of the Enron group of companies. As a result, I had occaision to work with Chuck many times as well as to enjoy his company at various work related events. He was a consummate professional and a gentleman. I will always remember him for his gentle disposition (although he was a very tough litigator, paradoxically) as well as being probably the best dressed guy I know. He has many friends all over the country and will be sorely missed by all of us. I last saw him in Denver in December of 2007 at a hearing in federal court. We were able to share memories of our Enron days and of our friends from there. It was a pleasure to see him. I know that words from a stranger can offer little comfort in a time of loss such as this, but I wanted to you know that Chuck was loved and admired by many that you are probably unaware of. I am most sorry for your loss. Sincerely, Steve Williams

Sometimes we come across people that will leave an everlasting impact on our lives. I can say Chuck had a profound part in my life. He helped me get my first start in the Legal Field. Chuck hired me as the file clerk in his group and believed in me. I went on to be a Sr. Secretary and moved on within Enron and I ended my career 19 years later with Enron. Chuck was a fair man and was truly respected by all. Chuck had great attributes which were envied by all (men and women). Why? Because, he never had a bad hair day and could out dress from the shoes on up. Chuck had a great sense of humor and worked well with all of us. We were a team and I will never forget those great times we all had in his group. I will miss him but Thank the Lord he placed him in my path.
