Leslie “Les???Cooley, age 80, of Fishhook, Il. died Sunday evening (May 31, 2009) at his residence. He was born January 29, 1929 in Fishhook, Il. son of the late Leone and Ella Whitaker Cooley. He married Donna L. Nunn on June 19, 1954 in Chambersburg, Il. and she preceded him in death on July 30, 1992. Surviving are daughters, Joan Glenn and husband Robert of Versailles, Il. and their children, Bethina, Jessica, Rebekah; Kathy Feenstra and husband Doug of Fishhook, Il. and their children, Levi, Jason, and Lora; Rose Mary Garrett and husband Merle of Chambersburg, Il. and children Anthony, Timothy, Tiffiny, and Andy; two sons, Lyle Cooley and wife Cindy of Chambersburg, Il. and their children, Elizabeth and Mari; and Jerry Cooley and wife Pam of Rushville, Il. and children, Benjamin, Lucas, Ariane, and Celeste; five great-grandchildren, Korbyn, Liam, Alexandra, Logan, and Emily; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one grandson, Eric Michael Feenstra; one sister, Leola Smith; and three brothers, Elza Cooley, Melvin Cooley, and Herbert Cooley. Mr. Cooley farmed all his life in Fishhook area. Les loved playing in the creek and having “wiener –roasts???. He also loved listening to country music and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the Woodland Church and a trustee for Woodland Cemetery Association. He was also a Fairmount township board trustee, and one of the original trustees for the North Pike Fire Protection District. Les also worked for the Fairmount Road Commissioner for several years. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday (June 4, 2009) at Woodland Church in Fishhook, Il. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Airsman-Hires Chapel in Griggsville, Il. Memorials may be made to Woodland Church, Woodland Cemetery or Pike County Hospice c/o Airsman-Hires Chapel Box 341 Griggsville, Il. 62340. I'm sorry to hear of Leslie's passing. He was a good man and a fine neighbor. He taught me a lot about farming and rural life. He loved his family and his country and he will be missed. Thanks to his family, he always felt loved. My whole family mourn's his passing.

I am sorry for your loss and send my sympathy. My folks lived east of Woodland in the 1950s and I remember waving to Leslie many a time as we drove past his farm.
