Velma Kesinger Day, age 98 of Manhattan, Kansas and formerly of White Hall, died Monday, January 4, 2010 in Alexandria, Virginia, where she was visiting with relatives. She was born January 21, 1911 in Murrayville, the daughter of Albert R. and Jessie Jones Hayes. She married Merrill Donald Kesinger March 14, 1931 in Jacksonville, and he preceded her in death March 18, 1968. She later married J. Rollin Day on May 9, 1976 in Amarillo, Texas and he died on August 11, 1982. She is survived by a son Don and his wife Beth Kesinger of Manhattan, Kansas, four grandchildren, Julie (Jim) Garster of Springfield, Virginia, Kim (Bob) Balstad of New Milford, Connecticut, T.J. (Elisa) Morton of Nurenberg, Germany, and Lee Morton of Grand Junction, Colorado. There are seven great grandchildren, Kevin, Claire, and Mary Kate Garster, Brady, Bethany, and Ben Balstad, and Hannah Morton. Mrs. Day worked for several years at Kesinger Feed and Farm Supply, which she and her husband owned. She had also worked for the State of Illinois Department of Labor. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of White Hall. She was also a 75 year member of Royal Neighbors of America. In 2007 she moved to Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community in Manhattan, Kansas to be near her son and daughter-in-law. She enjoyed making candy for her many friends and family. She also enjoyed traveling to see her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a great St. Louis Cardinals fan, and also enjoyed watching Kansas State University football and basketball. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 9, 2010 at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with burial in White Hall Cemetery. Rev. Bill Martin will conduct services. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
