Larry R. (LR) Ford 73 of Roodhouse passed away Saturday February 6 2010 at St. Johns hospital in Springfield. He was born April 21, 1936 in Walkerville, the son of John S. Ford and Helen Ruth Hazelwood Ford. He was raised in the home of John and Doris V. Ford. He married Joyce H. Hopper on July 25, 1957 in Winchester, and she survives. He is also survived by four children. Larry (Linda) Ford, Janie(Craig) Manley, Rocky Ford all of Roodhouse, and Cindy (Mike) Scott of Kansas City MO. Seven grandchildren Lacy Ford, Mallory Wear, Ryan Scott, Kayla Bailey, Kirstie Ford, Katelynn Manley, Bradyn Ford, seven step-grandchildren, Mike Scott, Lee Scott, Christina Woods, Leah Borrowman, Megan Borrowman, Tracy Borrowman, Ryan Hammon. Two great grandchildren, Payton Mullens, Kendyn Ford and one step-great grand child, Taylor Rieker, one sister Helen (Larry) Maxfield of Moscow Mills MO, one aunt and several nieces and nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers James and Clyde. He worked for the railroad for 38 years as a brakeman and conductor, and Retired in 1996. He worked part-time as a school bus driver for the North Greene School District in the 70's. He had also worked for VanTuyle Farms for many years, but the last few years his health kept him from doing it any longer. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956. He was a member of the Roodhouse Lions Club, and a member of the White Hall Masonic Lodge. In his earlier years he served on the Greene County Board, and was an alderman for the city of Roodhouse. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a very well respected person in his community. He was known as grandpa by many children in his community, it always brought a smile to his face to hear a child go by the house and yell out "Hi Grandpa", he would wave and often ask later, who was that? He will be dearly missed not only by his loving family and friends, but by his canine pals Joey and Kohl. Visitation will be held from 4-8 P.M. on Tues. Feb. 9 at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Roodhouse. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wed. Feb. 10 at 2 P.M. with burial to follow in Pine Tree Cemetery.
