Paul E. Matthews, 69, formerly of Eldred died on Monday evening Feb. 22, 2010 at Christian Hospital in St. Louis.
Born in Hardin on Oct. 8, 1940 he was the son of the late Vernice and Ethel Marie Poore Matthews. He married the former Nita Marie Shaw on Nov. 14, 1964 and she preceded him in death on June 6, 1999.
Surviving are a brother and sister-in-law: Robert and Kathryn Matthews of Dorsey, an Aunt Eleanor Poore of O’Fallon, and an Uncle Bill (wife Rita) Poore of Hardin, and a number of nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a brother Jerome Matthews and 2 sisters: Helen Hillen and Maxine Fix.
He was a graduate of Calhoun High School in 1960 and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He retired from Olin Brass Casting Plant after many years of service. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed fishing and travel.
Visitation will be from Noon-2 P.M. on Friday Feb. 26 at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton. Services will be held at 2 P.M. at the funeral home with burial to follow in Eldred Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Condolences may be left online at: www.airsman-hires.com.
