| Joan Janette Staples, 77, of Carrollton died on Monday March 1 at Mt. Gilead Shelter Care Home near Carrollton. Born in Eldred on August 20, 1932 she was the daughter of the late Keith and Janette Smith Brannan. She married Gale Staples in 1950 and they later divorced in 1970. Surviving are 2 daughters and sons-in-law: Bev and Dick Lakin of Carrollton, Barb and Jim Mathews of Bluffs, 2 sons and daughters-in-law: George and Deb Staples and Jack and Joan Staples all of Carrollton, 11 grandchildren:Michael and Harry, Shane and B.J., Jared, Jena and Jana, Jennifer, Laci, Corey and Kyle, 12 great grandchildren: Zach, Zoey, Jacob, A.J., Branyon, Levi, Lexi, Carter, Russ, Will, Katie and Brady, 3 brothers and their wives: Mike and Tunie Brannan of Eldred, Barry and Margaret Brannan of Eldred, Richard and Joan Brannan of Godfrey. She was preceded in death by her parents and 3 brothers: Joe , Charles and Gordon Brannan. Joan was a member of the First Baptist Church in Carrollton. She loved spending time with family and grandchildren and will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Visitation will be from 10:15 – until service time at 11 A.M. at the Carrollton City Cemetery on Thursday March 4. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Mt. Gilead Shelter Care Home.
