Donald “Deep??? Francis Pranger, 79, of Carrollton died unexpectedly on Saturday morning March 6, 2010 at his residence. Born in White Hall on Feb. 2, 1931, he was the son of the late Frank and Margaret Pohlman Pranger. He first married the former Patricia “Patsy??? Johnson on May 7,1955 and she preceded him in death on June 6, 1990. He later married Doris Helton Brannan on Nov. 24, 1995 and she survives. Also surviving are: three sons; Dennis (wife Chris) Pranger of Glen Carbon, Dr. Timothy (wife Patti) Pranger of Edwardsville, Gary (wife Kari) Pranger of Springfield, a daughter: Karen (husband Tim) Coonrod of Carrollton, stepdaughter: Cathy (husband Chuck) Schirz of Greenfield, stepson: Tom (wife Sarah) Brannan of Marshall, a step daughter-in-law: Judy Brannan of Carrollton, 27 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, a sister Bernice Cronin of Carrollton. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Patsy, a stepson Stanley Brannan and brother in law Joe Cronin. He was a graduate of St. John’s High School, a veteran of the U.S. Army (serving in Germany from 1951-1953), a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Carrollton American Legion Post, and St. John’s Catholic Church. He was a proud member of the Carrollton American Legion Post honor guard. He was an original member of the Carrollton Dummies softball team. He was employed at Shell Oil Co. in Wood River for 10 years and later worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Carrollton for 26 years, retiring in 1991. He loved his family and was so very proud of his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved watching all of their sporting events. Visitation will be from 4-8 P.M. on Monday March 8 at St. John’s Catholic Church. Prayer service will be held at 3:50 P.M. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday March 9 at 10 A.M. at the church. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. John’s School, the Carrollton American Legion or the Carrollton Knights of Columbus.
