| June Christine Nunes, 79, of Jacksonville, died Saturday, March 6, 2010, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. She was born July 18, 1930, in Concord, the daughter of Elmer and Rena Argretta McDannald Loughary. She married William Frank Nunes on May 4, 1946, and he survives. Mrs. Nunes is also survived by three daughters, Connie (husband, Neil) Mueller and Karen Ladely, both of Bluffs, and Paula (husband, Henry) Beckman of Jacksonville; one son, Charles W. (wife, Kim) Nunes of New London, Missouri; a niece who had lived in her home, Lynnette (husband, Aaron) Parson of Macomb; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Mueller of Decatur, Troy McDade and Gina (husband, Darren) Rosenberger, both of Jacksonville, Gera (husband, Kevin) Martin of Chicago, Jenny (husband, Eric Dale) Buchanan and Andrew William Nunes, both of Jacksonville, and Cheryl Bauser of Beardstown; twelve great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Thelma Shawgo of Hamilton, and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one infant brother. Mrs. Nunes owned and operated the Koffee Kup Kafe in Bluffs for several years, and later moved to Jacksonville in the 1980’s and opened the original Kottage Kafe on the corner of South Main Street and Michigan Avenue. In addition to the restaurants, Mrs. Nunes ran the concession stand at the Morgan County Raceway for Kenny Dobson for several years. Mrs. Nunes hosted her own radio show, “This and That with Dave and June,??? which aired on WJIL in Jacksonville, and was a tireless promoter of country music in the area. Her work through the radio station offered her the opportunity to work with several country music recording artists, and she appeared on the television show “Hee Haw.??? June was always community minded, whether she was helping organize the annual burgoo or parades in Bluffs, to helping Ron Tendick with his mayoral campaign. She was known not only for her blunt honesty, but also for her extreme generosity and willingness to do for others. She enjoyed collecting Longaberger Baskets, taking camping trips to Texas with her husband, and her role as a fisherman’s widow. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at Williamson Funeral Home, with burial at Concord Cemetery. Family will meet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Passavant Area Hospital Paramedics, or Passavant Area Hospital.
