Opal M. Smith, 95 of Jacksonville, formerly of Winchester and Alsey passed away Wednesday evening May 30, 2012 at Heritage Health in Jacksonville. She was born September 11, 1916 in Alsey the daughter of the late Alsey and Theresa Fundel Smith. Opal attended Alsey schools and was a 1934 graduate of Winchester High School. She then worked as a secretary in various offices in the area retiring from the Scott County Highway Department. She was a member of Alsey Baptist Church and always enjoyed spending time with her family. Surviving are 3 nieces, Peggy Craft of Newnan, GA Shirley Canevit of Canton, Jane Harms of Bloomington, 2 nephews, Kenneth Boester of Winchester and Tim Hubbert of Kansas City, MO, 5 great nieces and nephews and a sister in law Elsie Smith of St. Louis, MO. Preceding her was a brother Elmo Smith, an infant brother, 2 sisters Stella Boester, and Colleen Hubbert, a nephew Charles Boester and her dear friend Joe Taylor. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Monday June 4, 2012 at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester. Burial will be in Gillham Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 12 noon until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to the Winchester EMS or Gillham Cemetery.
