Mark Hewett Evans, 65, of Jacksonville, passed away Friday, June 8, 2012, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He was born April 16, 1947, in Jacksonville, the son of Robert E. and Margaret H. Evans. He married Kathryn M. Standley on September 24, 1983, in Jacksonville, and she survives. Mark is also survived by his two daughters, Emily of Chicago and Claire of Springfield; his terrier Gracie, his mother, Margaret H. Evans of Jacksonville; four siblings, Barb (husband, Joe) Kabat of Noblesville, Indiana, and Janet (husband, Jim) Cisne, Bruce (wife, Melissa) Evans, and Maureen (husband, Rob) Vidakovich, all of Jacksonville, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mark is also survived by the loving members of the Gloria Standley family and his honorary parents, Cornell and Mary Kane of Jacksonville. Mark was a 1965 graduate of Jacksonville High School and served four years in the United States Air Force with a tour in Vietnam. Following his discharge from the Air Force, Mark became a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service and worked there for 35 years. Following his retirement in 2008, Mark began working part-time with Airsman-Hires Funeral Homes. Mark was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Jacksonville. Mark enjoyed playing golf and poker with his friends and gathering with his fellow postal retirees. He was a big fan of Arizona Cardinal football and NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon. He cherished his family and loved doting on his “little women.” A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Jacksonville, with burial at Sheppard Cemetery, south of Jacksonville. The family will meet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Williamson Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital or P.A.W.S. The family also encourages donations of blood or platelets in Mark’s honor. Condolences may be left to the family online at www.airsman-hires.com.

Mrs. Evans and family, I am so sorry for your loss. There are few people you make a special connection with and I considered Mark and yourself one of those special connections. It has been a pleasure serving and caring for you both. May the peace of God that passes all understanding guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Love you. Peggy (Medical Assistant)

Kate, Emily, Claire, & all the Evans Family - Our heartfelt sympathy for the loss of a wonderful husband, father, son, brother, in-law, and friend. I have known Mark for over forty years and it was always fun to be with him. It was always fun bantering with Mark over every little thing. Like the Cowboys vs Cardinals, or Bonnie giving him digs about Jeff Gordon. I’m so sorry that we did not see more of Mark over the past few years and especially the past year. You would not have known that Mark was sick by seeing him. He seemed to always be in good spirits. We will greatly miss Mark, as will all his family and many, many friends and co-workers and those that were on the mailman’s route. Kate, Emmy, & Claire - neither rain, nor snow, nor glum of night can ever fad the memories of your loving husband and father. He loved you so much and was so very proud of his girls. Mark will always be in your hearts as he will be in ours.
