Ronald Dewey Brockhouse, 65 of Virden, formally of Waverly, died Saturday, September 8, 2012 at his residence. He was born July 2, 1947 in Jacksonville, the son of Lambert D. and Ina Carlene May Brockhouse. He married Kimberly K. Smith on June 17, 1994 in Macoupin County, and she survives. He is survived by three sons; Ronald Craig (Tammy) Brockhouse of Chester, David Keith (Frances) Brockhouse of Waverly, Anthony Mathew (Lesley) Brockhouse of Girard, three stepchildren; Kristin Leigh (Joseph) Kincaid of Waverly, Daniel Dane (Tara) DeWitt of Thayer, and Dustin Ray (Casey) DeWitt of Modesto. There are six grandchildren; Nick, Ayden, Lexi and Tylor Brockhouse, Bobby Myers, and KayLeigh Kincaid. He also is survived by a sister, Carolyn R. (Ervin) Vieck of Mt. Prospect, and Gary L. (Patricia) Brockhouse of Morris. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Brockhouse served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1972, where he was deployed to Vietnam with the Special Forces. He had worked 38 years in law enforcement, 30 of which were with the Waverly Police Department, as Chief of Police, retiring in 2008. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and loved being with his children, grandchildren, family, and friends. He was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Waverly. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 13, at the Christ Lutheran Church in Waverly, with burial in Panther Creek Cemetery at Scottville. Visitation will be from 4 – 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Law enforcement personnel are encouraged to arrive at visitation from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. if possible. Memorials may be suggested to Christ Lutheran Church in Waverly. Neece-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Waverly is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be left on-line at www.airsman-hires.com.

I was more than a member of the class of "65, Ron and I grew up in the same neighborhood. It is hard to think that we are losing our class so quickly. My prayers and thoughts are with his family. I know that Ron fought the fight of his life for his life. God's hands now keep him safe till we meet againe.
